Probabilistic Weyl laws for quantized tori MACIEJ ZWORSKI UC Berkeley Abstract For the Toeplitz quantization of complex-valued functions on a 2n-dimensional torus we prove that the expected number of eigenvalues of small random perturbations of a quantized observable satisfies a natural Weyl law. In numerical experiments the same Weyl law also holds for “false” eigenvalues created by pseudospectral effects. The talk is based on joint work with TJ Christiansen.

Agglomeration of invention in the Bay Area: Not just ICT
We document that the Bay Area rose from 4% of all successful US patent applications in 1976 to 16% in 2008. This is partly driven by the increase in the prevalence of information and communication technology; however, even for patents unrelated to information and communication technology, we see a disproportionate increase in the share of all US patents from the Bay Area. We interpret this to s...
متن کاملRegularity, Local and Microlocal Analysis in Theories of Generalized Functions
We introduce a general context involving a presheaf A and a subpresheaf B of A. We show that all previously considered cases of local analysis of generalized functions (defined from duality or algebraic techniques) can be interpretated as the B-local analysis of sections of A. But the microlocal analysis of the sections of sheaves or presheaves under consideration is dissociated into a ”frequen...
متن کاملDistribution of Heavy Metals Associated with Petroleum in the Northern Persian Gulf: Bushehr and Nayband Bay Area
Parts of oil spills reach Iranian coastline along the Persian Gulf in the form of tar balls and scattered oilpatches. There are many published reports regarding oil spills reaching northern coasts of the Persian Gulf, but none report on the content of heavy metals associated with petroleum in sediments and plants ofcontaminated areas. This research was conducted to determine and map petroleum- r...
متن کاملMicrolocal Analysis of GTD-based SAR models
We show how to apply the techniques of microlocal analysis to the Potter-Moses attributed scattering center model, which is based on the Geometrical Theory of Diffraction (GTD). The microlocal methods enable us to determine how scattering centers will appear in the radar data. We show also how to extend the model to some multiple-scattering events, and we apply the microlocal techniques to the ...
متن کاملA Walking Tour of Microlocal Analysis
We summarize some of the basic principles of microlocal analysis and their applications. After reviewing distributions, we then define pseudodifferential operators, their symbols, and the pseudolocal property. This then leads to the fundamental notion of microlocal analysis: the wave front set of a distribution. The wave front set will then be used to analyze the problem of the propagation of s...
